July Experience Offers Present Gifts, Clues to the Future

A high school student’s dream: take college life for a test drive.

Nearly 80 high schoolers, from across the U.S. and from Lithuania to China, finish taking 鶹Ƶ for a spin this week. They burrowed into classes such as an Anthropology course on “Skull, Bones and Clandestine Graves,” lived in the dorms, tumbled out questions to professors in one-on-one meetings and kayaked at the Lake Campus.

The annual immersion into campus life lets professors spark young, inquisitive minds with college-level coursework. It sends the high schoolers on field trips to Charlotte’s museum and theatre scene before they dive into a high school version of 鶹Ƶ’s Spring Frolics weekend.

Current 鶹Ƶ students, some of them July Experience alumni, guide the program as near-peer counselors, and a majority of the high schoolers apply to 鶹Ƶ. The most common result, though, is that all of them leave knowing more about their own college path.

Follow July Experience students as they take over our and accounts this final week of the program.
